Methodism has been a pillar of the Poughkeepsie community for more than a century. The church’s physical location has moved from Washington Street, to its current location in the suburbs of the Town of Poughkeepsie. Renamed POUGHKEEPSIE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, people of faith have been calling this large, yellow brick church, near Vassar College, their spiritual home since 1964. Generation after generation of families come to PUMC to worship, to wed, to have their children baptized, to serve, to socialize, to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. And the “old timers” are never more pleased than when welcoming newcomers to their beloved church.
Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church has been blessed with the mergers with other churches over the years. This includes Trinity Methodist in the 1960’s and, recently, the Wappingers United Methodist Church and the Bangall United Methodist Church. What a joy to welcome the faithful from these communities!
Much has changed over the years, but PUMC remains a constant as an active and vibrant church that strives to meet the needs of its large, diverse congregation. While it’s impossible to convey the love and dedication of the people that are the driving force of PUMC, we hope this website adequately communicates all the comprehensive offerings to worship, learn, serve, love and grow at PUMC.
Give a call or send an email if you have any questions about how YOU can become a part of the PUMC family. Better yet, come to our Sunday service at 10:00am. We’ll save you a seat in our Sanctuary and offer you a coffee and donut in our Fellowship Hall afterwards. See ya!
